Chlorophytum comosum 'Variegatum', commonly known as the Spider Plant, Green Lily, or Bride's Veil, is a decorative houseplant native to Africa that does not require special care, is easy to maintain, and additionally purifies the air.
NASA ranks Chlorophytum comosum among the top 3 types of houseplants that are excellent at removing formaldehydes. It also removes carbon monoxide and other toxins or impurities.

Care for Chlorophytum comosum 'Variegatum':

  1. Light:

    • Preferences: The plant prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate partial shade, but the leaves will be more vibrant and have stronger contrast if the plant receives adequate light.
    • Avoid: Avoid direct exposure to strong sunlight, which can cause leaf burns.
  2. Soil:

    • Soil type: Prefers well-drained soil rich in organic matter. A mix of universal potting soil for indoor plants combined with perlite or sand is ideal to ensure good drainage.
    • Amendments: Add compost to improve soil fertility.
  3. Watering:

    • Frequency: Water regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soaked. In summer, water the plant twice a week. In winter, reduce watering frequency, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
    • Method: Water the plant at the base to avoid wetting the leaves, which can lead to fungal diseases.
  4. Temperature:

    • Optimal range: Chlorophytum comosum 'Variegatum' prefers temperatures between 15-25°C. It is sensitive to cold and does not tolerate temperatures below 10°C.
    • Protection: Avoid exposure to cold drafts and protect the plant from sudden temperature changes.
  5. Humidity:

    • Preferences: The plant tolerates dry air well but prefers a moderate level of humidity. In dry conditions, mist the leaves periodically to maintain the necessary moisture.
  6. Fertilizing:

    • Type: Fertilize the plant every two weeks during the active growth period (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer for indoor plants, diluted according to the package instructions. In autumn and winter, reduce fertilizing to once a month.
  7. Propagation:

    • Methods: Chlorophytum comosum 'Variegatum' is easily propagated by the plantlets that appear at the ends of runners. Cut the plantlets with roots and plant them directly in well-drained soil. The plant can also be propagated by dividing the clump.
  8. Common problems:

    • Diseases: The plant can suffer root rot if overwatered. Ensure the soil is well-drained and the plant does not sit in water.
    • Pests: Check the plant regularly for aphids, red spider mites, and scale insects. Treat promptly if infestations occur.
    • Brown leaves: Leaf tips may turn brown if the plant does not receive enough water or if the air is too dry. Increase humidity and adjust watering as needed.

Height including pot: 30-40 cm

Note: specimens in stock may also have leaves with defects due to handling/transport.

**UPDATE ON PDT*** Ingredients changed
Ok here’s my update (4/4/26) We loved it. It did what it was supposed to do in the beginning but now I stopped using the product. Ingredients must’ve changed. It’s now a darker color, it doesn’t dissolve like it did in the past, and worst part— my daughter’s hair started breaking off. It could just be her hair but I don’t want to take chances. The ingredients definitely changed. We are trying azure batana and will stick with it for 3 months to see results. But as of now their product looks like the real deal. It’s a shame because I like consistency. I’ll stick with one product for years. Oh well. Tossed this one out. (Pic 1-2 AFTER USING; Pic 3 BEFORE USING) Yes it works. It smells so if you’re sensitive to smells, you might only want to use it as a deep conditioner. Both my daughter & I are adjusted to the smell and love the results so we can easily prioritize our results over the less than fragrant odor. But the results!!! My daughter lost 40% of her hair a yr ago to severe scalp ezcema (+ a trip to St Martin’s beautiful yet salty water). We used other products with marginal success. I started using this product 2 months ago & I already see results. We use it twice weekly as a spot treatment along the crown & nape of her head, and deep condition with it twice monthly. Her locs are growing and more importantly, her edges and nape are recovering tremendously. We’re going to keep at it!! We like the texture (moist but not sticky), it leaves her locs moisturized but not weighed down. Her hair is drinking it up. Will repost after 2 more months.

The smell.
It really does smell like coffee. Contrary to some of the comments, the coffee smell doesn't go away right away. Waiting to see the results.

THIS STUFF WORKS!!!!!!
First of all - RUN, DON’T Walk & get this. IT WORKS!!! I kid you NOT, that I can literally feel sprouts of hair growing out of the roots of my head! After washing my hair And drying it, I part my hair into several sections and gently massage it into my scalp. After at least a day or so, I can feel the tickle in my scalp, it feels like grass slowly growing. I have plenty of hair, but I would love to actually see this product used on someone who doesn’t have hair like me. I am using the product because of a thinning spot that I have from a sew-in that I have had multiple times, and getting it parted in the same area for over a period of time. You can Not beat this product, especially for the price.
