jtm pedal Weehbo JTM Drive Overdrive – Guitars RebellionThe Weehbo JTM Drive is an Overdrive type effect pedal, inspired by Marshall Plexi, which is intended for all fans of British Vintage sounds. The Weehbo JTM Drive is an Overdrive type effect pedal, inspired by Marshall Plexi, which is intended for all fans of British Vintage sounds. Here, no gain galore, but an overdrive inspired by the Plexi Super Bass and others of the late 60s.
The Weeboh JTM Drive adopts a compact box with the usual Gain and Level controls, active 3-band equalization and a mini toggle switch that allows you to choose a specific frequency range for the mids. Inside, it's very very pretty, with PCBs and components of excellent quality and a precision assembly. German quality!
Small detail that is important, the pedal can be powered by 9 or 18V. What does this change? Well in 9V you have a softer sound, a little warmer. At 18V you have more headroom and increased dynamics. We leave the choice to you and it couldn't be nicer!
Once plugged into the clean channel of a Two-Rock Studio Signature (clean channel of excellence), the first thing that strikes you is how quiet the pedal is. It's simple, there is almost no breath, even with the gain fully. It's beautiful! With the gain at 10:00 and the EQ flat, you get a great boost, which not only adds harmonic content but also thickness. The dynamics are at the top and we always have this typical sound signature of the brand: a solid bottom.
By pushing the gain to 13:00, we have a light, very British drive, loaded with high-mediums with sharpness and a little "bright plexi" side that Hendrix fans will appreciate. It is to be so mistaken! The response is immediate and the EQ corrections are ultra-precise. By pushing the gain fully, it moves gently into a blues-rock, rock register. We are on low-mid gain but with a mammoth attack, very punchy, clean and frank, with perfectly detached notes. Nice natural compression and rich mids make it easy to get harmonics out. The top of the spectrum is very detailed, with treble that slices without attacking. The key, bass at 1:00 p.m., treble at 12:00 p.m., medium at 2:00 p.m. With this, you go through the mix in a superb way with a maximum of presence. The JTM Drive is a very balanced, intelligently voiced pedal. The EQ is extremely precise and the Mid Freq switch allows you to correct different frequency ranges. 2kHz left, 500Hz center and 1kHz right, perfect for correcting a potential lack depending on which guitar/amp you're using.
In the end, the JTM drive is one of the most "vintage oriented" models in the range. We will recommend it to fans of 60-70's sounds. It will be equally at home with a Stratocaster or a guitar equipped with humbuckers.
